Penelope
Penelope is another dog that came from a shelter.
She has been living with her new family for over a year.
She shows high insecurity towards low distractions, which makes her walks and overall interaction with the outdoor environment very difficult. She shows limited interest in high value food while she is out, and many times even while she is at home.
In general, fearful dogs are harder to manage than aggressive dogs. That's because while we can correct bad or unwanted behaviors, there is no way to correct fear. There are few things that can be done, and it takes really long time.
Penelope accepted my treats after 3 appointments, and still she is clearly not fully trusting me yet.
There is a long way ahead till we get the results we have set as goal with her handlers, but their daily life is improved a lot.
Our approach with every dog (and human for this matter) is that there will be stressful moments in our lives at some point. Our mission is to show to our dogs a way out of this situation.
Careful steps must be done at all times because a bit of extra pressure can lead us back to zero.
